Job Descriptions
At S.W. Rodgers, we are always accepting applications for the following positions:
Off-Road Articulated Truck
Applicant must be able to perform a pre-shift inspection, checking lights, back up alarm, attention horn, mirrors, tires, air or fluid leaks, and any other visible signs of malfunction prior to starting a shift. Operator must have a working knowledge of off-road articulated trucks to transport dirt, rock, and other construction debris on site safely and efficiently.
Track Loader/Excavation Crew
In addition to being able to perform a pre-shift inspection, applicants for track loaders in excavation are required to dig ponds, roads, pads, and pits to specific grades safely and efficiently, reading grade stakes as well as backfill excavations. Applicants must also be able to load trucks with rock, dirt, and other construction materials. Ability to read and understand plans, grade stakes, and take directions is required.
Track Loader/Pipe Crew
In addition to the requirements above, this position requires prior experience using pipe forks to load and unload pipes and structures from trailers, backfilling ditches, keeping stone box full, and transport materials and tools around the job site.
Track Excavator/Excavation Crew
Applicant must be able to perform a pre-shift inspection, checking lights, back up alarm, attention horn, mirrors, fluid leaks, and any other visible signs of malfunction prior to starting a shift. Operator must have a working knowledge of excavators digging pits, ponds, loading trucks with dirt, rock, and other construction material, and the ability to read grade stakes and take direction.
Track Excavator/Pipe Crew
Applicant must be able to perform the requirements above as well as have knowledge of trench boxes and shields, rigging and lifting pipes and structures, trenching and excavation requirements of OSHA/VOSH, and competent people skills in the absence of the foreman.
Dozer/GPS Grading
Applicant must be able to perform a pre-shift inspection, checking lights, back up alarm, attention horn, mirrors, fluid leaks, and any other visible signs of malfunction prior to starting a shift. GPS grading experience is recommended but not required. Applicants should have a working knowledge of reading contour stakes, pad stakes, and curb and street stakes and must be able to fine grade to minimal tolerances in a productive manner.
Pipe Layer and Tailman
Applicant must have working knowledge of underground utility installation, to include sanitary sewer, storm, waterline, and conduits. Ability to read grades and set up a laser is preferred but not required. Position requires experience with plastic, concrete, and ductile pipe and proper installation techniques. Applicant should be able to work in both open ditch and trench box scenarios.
CDL Class A, B, or C Drivers
Applicants should provide a copy of their driving record with the application for employment. The driving record must have been obtained from DMV and be no more than 30 days old. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of experience and endorsements for the position for which they apply. Applicants with a point balance of -3 or more will not be considered for employment. The Safety Department will determine if the record is eligible for consideration.
Successful candidates must have a current medical certificate issued by an approved DMV physician and be able to complete a walk around inspection and driving test prior to a hiring agreement. Knowledge of Northern Virginia roads and streets is a must.
Class A Drivers: Hired for low boy or any other combination of vehicles that require a Class A transport equipment, machinery tools, and attachments to and from our yard and job sites. Proper binding and load securement knowledge is required. Other job requirements are knowledge of heavy hauling permits and restricted routes as well as height, weight, and length requirements and heavy equipment operation.
Class B Drivers: Job requirements are to transport dirt, rock, and other construction materials to and from job sites, quarries, dumps, and landfills safely. A working knowledge of roads and streets and weight restriction is also required.
Class C Drivers: In addition to the requirements above, drivers transporting hazardous materials must be trained in HAZMAT safety and security. A knowledge of the regulations pertaining to the transportation and handling of hazardous materials such as diesel fuel is required.
Concrete Finisher
Applicants must have ability to set up and finish concrete, to include curb and gutter, sidewalk, and various flat work scenarios. Applicants should have the ability to read cut sheets and set grades accordingly. Positions are available for hand work and machine pour applications, including stringline and box-setting crews.
